Storm-YARN has been released as open source. Storm-YARN enables Storm applications to utilize the computational resources in a Hadoop cluster along with accessing Hadoop storage resources such as HBase and HDFS.As GigaOm's Derrick Herris puts it: "A service like Twitter is a prime example of where Storm can be valuable. Twitter uses Storm to handle tweets so users’ Timelines are up to date and do things like real-time analytics and spotting emerging trends....Among web companies, Storm has become quite popular as a stream-processing complement to Hadoop since then."
